About the role:
We are looking for a Middle Java/Kotlin Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team and contribute to the development of a next-generation Payment Orchestration Platform. This platform optimises transaction processing, enhances operational efficiency, and delivers a seamless user experience. It integrates with multiple payment gateways, incorporates fraud prevention mechanisms, and ensures compliance with PCI DSS and other financial regulations.
Team Structure:
The team is being built from scratch to support a new client and a high-impact project. The initial plan is to form a full-scale team consisting of 4 backend engineers, 1 frontend engineer, 1 QA, 1 Business Analyst (BA), and 1 Solution Architect (SA). As the project scales, the goal is to expand to two full-scale teams, bringing the total team size to 15 specialists. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a newly established team, shaping the architecture, processes, and best practices from the ground up.
You’ll work with the following stack:
Java / Kotlin, Spring Boot, Spring Security, PostgreSQL, Kafka, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes.
Schedule:
Flexible, with occasional required meetings. Working hours – standard businesses hours CET timezone
As a qualified expert, You will:
- Develop and maintain backend services using Java/Kotlin in a microservices architecture.
- Take ownership of feature development from idea to production.
- Design and implement APIs and integrate with third-party services.
- Work with PostgreSQL, Kafka, and other backend technologies.
- Build and secure applications using Spring Boot and Spring Security.
- Write clean, testable code and participate in code reviews.
- Deploy and manage services in AWS Cloud using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Collaborate with frontend, QA, and DevOps teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Participate in Scrum ceremonies and communicate effectively with the team.
- Continuously improve the system by researching and applying new technologies.
We’re looking for you if you have:
- 3+ years of backend development experience with Java/Kotlin in a microservices architecture within e-commerce / fintech / telecom / health tech domains.
- Experience working on 2+ real production projects with a visible impact.
- Proven ability to take full ownership of feature development from start to finish.
- Hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring Security.
- Experience working in structured Scrum teams, understanding Agile ceremonies, roles, and goals.
- Strong problem-solving skills—able to challenge solutions and suggest improvements.
- Proactive approach—conducts initial research and asks relevant questions.
- Clear communicator—comfortable discussing technical topics with customer-side stakeholders.
- Curious mindset—digs deep into problems to ensure a full understanding of the system.
