About the role
PitchBook is a leading financial data and software company that is transforming private and public equity markets. We provide clients with comprehensive, reliable, and actionable data, research, and insights to help them make confident investment decisions and stay ahead of the competition.
You will join a newly formed, cross-functional team responsible for end-to-end data integration across the platform, covering the full lifecycle – from data discovery and onboarding to processing, delivery, and ongoing support.
The team works closely with business stakeholders and external data providers to analyze and shape new data opportunities, including data mapping, design alignment, and provider negotiations.
A key focus is building scalable, high-performance data pipelines that handle ingestion, storage, transformation, and complex calculations. The team ensures data consistency and high quality across the platform, enabling seamless consumption by both internal and external stakeholders.
In addition, the team contributes to user-facing data experiences, including UI/UX aspects, and defines data contracts and integration pipelines for downstream consumers across the ecosystem.
This role combines technical leadership, team management, and hands-on engineering, requiring strong analytical thinking, ownership, and cross-functional collaboration.
Team setup: New team, 1 SDEL, 5-6 BE SDE, 1 FE SDE, 1 SDET
Tech Stack: Java 17/21, Spring Boot (MVC, JDBC, Security), PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana
Work Environment: Flexible schedule with mandatory attendance for core team ceremonies (daily stand-ups, retros, and sprint planning). The environment emphasizes autonomy, deep technical ownership, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams.
As a qualified expert You will
- Lead, mentor, and grow a cross-functional engineering team
- Take ownership of team delivery, technical direction, and engineering quality
- Design and develop scalable backend services and data pipelines using Java
- Drive architectural decisions for distributed, data-intensive systems
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align on priorities, timelines, and delivery goals
- Work closely with adjacent teams to improve system integration and interoperability
- Ensure high standards in code quality, testing, and system reliability
- Improve development processes, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering practices
- Participate in hiring and team building, ensuring a strong and balanced team
- Promote adoption of AI tools and engineering productivity practices within the team
We’re looking for you if you have
Core Skills
- 5+ years of experience in software development, including 2+ years in a Team Lead role
- Experience in leading a remote team (4+ developers), collaborating with 3-rd party vendors
- Strong proficiency in Java (11+). Good OOP skills
- Solid experience with Spring Framework, Spring Boot 3, MVC\MVVM patterns
- Experience building data-intensive, scalable production systems
- Strong knowledge of SQL (PostgreSQL / MS SQL)
- Hands-on experience with message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SNS/SQS)
- Experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS or GCP)
- Profound understanding and active use of AI tooling to boost personal and team productivity. e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Gemini, MCP servers for coding, or AI-assisted testing/code review tools
- English Upper-Intermediate (B2 or higher); Ukrainian — fluent
Soft Skills
- Effective communication skills and experience collaborating with engineering, data, AI/ML, and product teams
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability
- Ability to drive technical discussions and make informed architectural decisions
- Enthusiasm for mentorship and knowledge sharing within the team
Nice to have Skills
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Flux CD and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, GitHub)
