We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager/Director of Engineering, AI to join us as part of our team.
About the role
In this role, you will become a heart of innovation and own the implementation of AI-powered development tools, optimize workflows with AI assistants and other approaches, and ensure smooth integration across delivery teams. While reporting to the VP, you will work closely with engineering teams, IT (security & compliance), and business leaders to enable practical AI adoption at scale.
This is a leadership role, ideal for someone who is mature and well capable in the engineering management space but has a deep passion and still hands on cutting edge AI technologies. While mixing novel Gen AI capabilities with software development background the person will drive adoption of innovations on scale but also provide effective feedback for shaping the global organization strategy.

SPD Technology is accelerating AI adoption across its software development processes, and we are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager / Director of Engineering, AI to lead the execution against our AI strategy.

As a qualified expert, You will
AI Technical Leadership
- Hire and manage the pool of AI experts and developers.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership on AI-related projects and initiatives.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest AI trends and technologies and share knowledge with the team.
- Establish and promote AI best practices within the organization.
AI Integration
- Lead the rollout of AI-driven tools and solutions across multiple engineering teams and business units.
- Define AI-supported best practices for software development and delivery.
- Plan and support the adoption of AI assistant tools
- Conduct trials, evaluations, and feedback loops on AI tool effectiveness.
- Collaborate with SPD-Labs and the engineering enthusiast community to align efforts on improving development workflows, building prototypes and performing research .
Pre-Sales & Client Engagement
- Own the AI-related part of pre-sales activities: demonstrate expertise, engage client(s) with deep understanding of the problem space and application to their business, provide high-level solution design
- Collaborate with the sales and account management team to develop compelling AI-driven proposals, use-cases and demonstrations.
- Understand client needs and translate them into response and updates of AI implementation strategies.
Operational Support on AI Adoption
- Act as the respectful AI authority and point of contact for engineering and functional teams regarding adoption questions & challenges.
- Train and coach developers, testers, and product teams on leveraging AI efficiently.
- Work with security and compliance teams to ensure safe AI usage.
- Develop AI usage guidelines and operational playbooks for delivery teams.
- Monitor barriers to AI adoption and proactively address concerns (security, resistance to change, inefficiencies).
AI Learning & Upskilling
- Partner with HR & L&D to develop practical AI training programs for employees.
- Organize workshops, internal knowledge-sharing sessions, and AI awareness campaigns.
- Serve as the company’s representative on AI-related matters.
Performance Tracking & AI Impact Measurement
- Track AI-assisted development KPIs (e.g., % AI-generated code, productivity and quality gains).
- Gather feedback from teams and adjust AI implementation strategies accordingly.
- Report AI adoption progress and insights to the company executives on a regular basis.
We’re looking for you if you have
Technical & AI Knowledge
- Hands-on experience with Get AI-powered development tools (e.g., Copilot, AI-assisted testing, AI-driven automation processes).
- Strong understanding of software development best practices and how AI can enhance them.
Knowledge of classical ML models, NN, DL, LLM (attention, transformer) architecture, AI Agents, and broader AI-driven decision-making tools on the level allowing leading the proficient team on AI system design, supporting related conversations, doing efficient judgement and application - Experience integrating AI (ML) and Data-oriented processes within Agile development lifecycles.
- Familiarity with cloud-based AI solutions, MLOps (AWS/GCP/Azure AI services) is a plus.
- Experience driving technology innovations (AI is preferred) within development teams.
- Ability to train, coach, and upskill teams on AI-powered workflows.
Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working across engineering, security, and business teams. - Ability to balance AI-driven efficiency with practical implementation challenges, e.g:
– Integrating AI tools into legacy systems
– Addressing concerns and obstacles (e.g. data security) when using AI and finding compromise solutions to move forward
– Managing resistance and fears while adopting new AI-driven workflows.
– Measuring the financial return on investment (ROI) of AI initiatives.
Project & Change Management
- Proven experience in managing transformational projects within development environments.
Strong ability to identify roadblocks, risks, and barriers to AI adoption and resolve them efficiently.
Data-driven mindset with a focus on AI adoption KPIs and success tracking. - Excellent communication & presentation skills
- Ability to explain AI concepts to both technical and non-technical listeners.
Experience working with functional (people, finance, legal, etc) and multi-cultural and geographically distributed teams
Expected Qualifications
- 5+ years in software development or relevant technical leadership roles.
- Strong experience in AI-assisted software engineering and development workflows.
- Experience managing AI adoption projects in a medium to large-scale tech organization.
- Familiarity with AI compliance and security best practices is a plus.
- Certifications in AI-related tools or AI governance are beneficial.
